Study Group Videos 2021/2022

2021-2022 Season – Study Group Videos
This was the first season that the Study Groups had hybrid meetings (in person and zoom) that
were recorded, edited and published on the Guild YouTube channel. There are almost 50 hours
of videos for your viewing pleasure. These videos are available on the Guild YouTube channel
through the Guild website signed on to the Members Area-Private. Click on the “You Tube”
button. Then select the appropriate Study Group and then the 2021 – 2022 Season.
All of the study group videos include lively discussions and wonderful show & shares. Some of
them include a demonstration or presentation on a specific topic or technique. Here are some
of the highlights of the 2021 – 2022 Study Groups. I have noted the position on the video where
the demonstration or presentation begins. You can just slide to the point to see the show or you
can watch the entire video.
Beads, Braids & Beyond:
October – Vikki Carpenter – starts at beginning of video – two braids from Takashi Mitsutake’s
book, Kumihimo on the Disk,
November – starts at 42:00 – Susan Anderson presents the various way different authors –
Owen Martin, Rosalie Neilson, etc. diagram the instructions for braids and how these vary by
braid structure.
December – starts at 42:15 – Master beader/braider Susan Anderson does a tutorial on right
angle weaving with beads.
January – starts at 16:30 – Co-leader Lynn Ruggles presented on bead color in beading and a
fruitful discussion of bead color, thread color, color mixing, etc. followed.
February – starts at beginning – how to make a curling flat braid on the octoplate to make
braided flowers using a technique by Makiko Tada, instructed by Vikki Carpenter.
April – starts at 23:00 – beading ladder technique presentation by group co-leader, Lynn
Ruggles.
May – starts at 28:00 – Martha Schaefer leads a fun and informative tutorial on ply-split braiding

Knit & Crochet Study Group
December – starts at 14:30 – Jeri Moskovitz talking about knitting and crocheting with copper
wire to make jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets which she embellishes with a broad
assortment of Czech glass and Japanese seed beads. She explains how she got started and
how she works with wire to get consistent results.
March – starts at 13:50 – The group leader, Sandy Gold, shows off a number of items made
from alternative sources such as fabric strips, rafia, wire, and plastic bags. There is also
discussion of the Guild’s January presentation by Yumiko Alexander on her knitting patterns and
designs.

April – starts at 10:10 – Participants discussed their experiences working with linen yarn and Pat
Wood shared swatches she made from various linen or linen blend yarns in order to decide
which one to use for her project.
May – starts at approx. 38:00 – Pat Wood gave us a wonderful presentation on how to evaluate
a pattern and determine if it will be what you want it to be.  

Porrey Cross – focused on Extended Paralllel Weave. Their videos include a lot of leader and
members discussing this technique and their projects.
March –starts at 21:30 – Weaving Software weaving techniques and approaches leading into a
formal presentation on various computer programs for drafting and designing weaving projects.
April – starts at 5:07 – May Ann Oldham explained Name Drafting. Members showed the
results of the painted warp workshop,
May – Susan Love did a great presentation on how to photograph your fiber art projects
effectively and lots of tips. This has been put into a separate video to make viewing easy. This
video is available on our website main page under “Education” then “Instructional Videos”
“Photographing Your Fiber Art” – 14 minutes of great information.

Rug Weaving
January – starts at 12:44 – Vicki France presents Twining Weaving.
March – starts at 26:00 – Yvonne Steinbring does a demonstration on the preparation of fabric
strips for rag rug weaving.
Spinning – the group has studied plant fibers – there is one video for the year compiling several
presentations into one video.
Wearable Arts
December – starts at 3:45 – Pauline Doyle displayed her wild side. She showed several
projects.
December – starts at 9:30 – Bobbie Gibel presented creating jackets via the use of raw edge
applique technique.
February – from the beginning – Jane Gilbreath presented demonstration on BORO
STITCHING as a Wearable Art embellishment.
April – starting at 37:50 Sandy Gold presented a program on Albama Chanin textiles inspiring
some of the group to work on sample pieces using knit pieces from Sarah’ stash.
14:00 Laura Tanzer talks about designing a dress for a 2022 Grammy nominee.
May – starting at 8:00 program will presented by Laura Tanzer on Trapunto.
Tapestry

November – 18:35 – Members talk with a Tucson mural artist, To-Ree-Nee Wolf Keiser, about
her mural located at 201 S. Broadway – Creation Story, Chaos Theory, and Quantum Memory
and make plans on using her work for inspiration for this year’s group challenge.
COMING SOON – these videos are in the queue and will be available on the YouTube channel
in the near future.
Felting – a video of Joan Ruane speaking about her time in New Zealand. Lots of great
information shared.
Dyeing – this group had it’s first meeting on 3/3/22 in the Weeks Room and then a meeting on
4/7/22 at Sandi Kramer’s home to do avocado pit dyeing.
