Rabbit holes for you to fall into

Not literally, of course. But if you have some time on your hands and are interested in the various connotations of “fiber arts”, here are some links I’ve found that you might find interesting. Don’t ask me about them, though – I’m busy clicking through them myself!

It looks like, about a decade ago, The Smithsonian Magazine decided to have a regular column devoted to fashion, historical and sartorial. That last phrase comes from them, not me – I’d not have put those two concepts together, at least not like that. LOL.

Emily Spivak was evidently the person hired to write and edit this column. I’ve clicked on several links and found nothing behind a paywall, though there are certainly several ads to ignore. But I’ll be going back after publishing this post to take my time reading a few of them.

From October 21, 2019 through January 10, 2021 MoMA had an exhibition titled “Taking Thread for a Walk”. See photos from the installation here.

There are some videos of an interesting Tapestry weaver by the name of Archie Brennan (1931-2019) on YouTube. I’m not a tapestry weaver, but there are several places where he’s shown weaving and it’s really quite mesmerizing to watch someone who obviously knows what they’re doing creating a picture from scratch.

Would you just like to look at pretty pictures of textiles? Here you go!

At 2 p.m. this Sunday, July 17, 2022 we’ll be opening up a Zoom chat for anyone that wants to talk about fiber arts. Feel free to join in from wherever you are (Arizona is on Mountain Standard time and does *not* do time change, so be aware of that.)
