THSG-January RUG WEAVING Study Group
January 11, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
The Rug Weavers Study Group meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month in a hybrid meeting, with some members in the Week’s Room at Grace St. Paul’s church and some via Zoom.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 11 at 10 a.m. If anyone is interested in the meetings and is not currently getting announcements via email, please contact Shelley at shelleychaseolsen@gmail.com and I’ll get you on the mailing list.
Vicki France is planning on doing a short presentation of how she makes twined rag rugs at the January meeting. We’ll also have show and share and discussions about rug weaving techniques.
For our December meeting, the group took a field trip to the Nizhoni Ranch Gallery in Sonoita. About 15 members made the drive to the gallery and spent a couple of hours marveling over the stunning work of Navajo weavers. We even got to go in the backroom and feel and touch the yarn that they supply to some of the weavers. Many of us continued on for lunch at the Copper Brothel Brewery.
Our focus for the year will be to weave a piece of our choice in honor of one of our long time members, Sarah Sammons, who recently passed away. We’re going to weave with her favorite colors (HOT ones – reds, yellows and oranges) and liberal use of texture.
