THSG-September FELTING Study Group

The FELTING STUDY Group will meet on Sept 1st at 10 AM.

Depending on Covid, the plan is to meet in-person in the larger room at Amphi Bible Chuch. She has once again kindly offered the space to us. Please be vaccinated and/or wear a mask. In the larger room, we will be distancing from each other. We will also simultaneously “broadcast” the meeting over Google MEET just as we do now.

We plan to start the year with a look at the differences in quality and use of a variety of pre-felt yardage. A focus will be given to light weight compared to heavier weight yardage, its best applications (Nuno felt garments, strength in construction, cutout applique with sharpest lines, etc) as well as best sources and prices. Please bring a selection of prefelt yardage that you may have to share along with info on the source, the weight, the cost. Also bring a variety of silk scraps in differing types and weights.  We’ll do some test samples and see what we find! Beth attended a class where a piece of the prefelt was attached on a 3 x 5 card along with the source, cost, and weight information. Please do that with small pieces cut from your prefelt yardage if possible!

After we feel satiated with our prefelt explorations, we are going to focus on lots of techniques for TEXTURE. Each meeting we will be working with a circular base of approximately 18″ and we will be learning and applying techniques new to us. The circle will give us the ability to easily choose to work 2-D or 3-D. The goal is to increase the Texture Techniques you have in your felting tool bag while also giving free reign to your personal expression. We will get to DO something together and SHARE different outcomes. These techniques will then be available for you to use in your personal focus whatever that may be–whether it’s garments, bags, hats,vessels, sculptures, etc.
